The dating game seems to have changed since the days of courting and romance. Nowadays, it seems like a Netflix and Chill moment is all that’s needed before entering a “situationship.” If you are wondering what exactly that is, Aidan Neal describes it best: “A situationship is basically a pseudo-relationship. A placebo masking itself as a formative relationship. It smells like a relationship, it sorta looks like a relationship, and it may even feel like one, but it’s not.” Typically, there are no titles, no real concrete commitment but a strange connection happens between the two people involved, leading them into a gray-filled relationship that often begs the question “What the hell is this?” After being in a few situationships myself unexpectingly, I often wonder if this arrangement is the new way of dating for men and women. Are the days of rules and boundaries pretty much over? Am I just old school with my desire for a committed relationship? Is this why all those pseudo-relationships ended quickly for me and I wind up Netflix and chilling alone? Ah, so many questions, so little answers. Perhaps, you can provide a few for me below.
What are your thoughts on this? Are situationships becoming the new relationships? Let’s talk about it!
