Since it is January, many of us will be trying our hand at getting back on track with our diet. During the holiday season, we typically indulge to our hearts’ content with rich foods and plenty of alcoholic drinks. For two months straight, we add calories on top of calories, causing us to gain a pound or two… or twenty-five. (No judge zone here) Many of us will join a gym and start a diet regimen (probably one that is too strict) in hopes to get closer to our dream summertime bodies! Unfortunately, after about a month, we slack off on all of our health and fitness goals, going off the wagon yet again. However, the best part about life is we can always try again. Like my girl Aaliyah said, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again!” So one way to improve our diet instantly is by choosing better snacks to munch on. Snacks can be highly addictive so one way to reduce the craving is by making them by scratch. I know you may not have that much time to make gourmet snacks but no worries, I got your back with 3 super easy snack ideas that are delicious and nutritious!

1. Banana with Peanut Butter: 1 medium banana + 1 tbs of natural peanut butter can create one tasty snack. Whether you simply peel off a banana and place a little peanut butter on the banana per bite or you get fancy and cut the bananas in one-inch slices and make mini sandwiches, this treat is wonderful for an early day snack packed with potassium, fiber, and protein! 2. Hummus with Carrots & Celery: Great for a midday snack, hummus is the perfect dip for carrots and celery. It lowers cholesterol, reduces the risks of certain cancers and slows down on cravings! Can this get any better? You betcha! The savory dip is also rich in protein, folate, and flavor! In addition, carrots are a great antioxidant, rich in “vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B8, pantothenic acid, folate, potassium, iron, copper, and manganese” (Source). Furthermore, celery contains vitamin C and they, too, lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, reduce high blood pressure, and promote health (Source). 3. Homemade Baked Sweet Potato Chips: Instead of purchasing sweet potato chips that are high in sodium and preservatives, why not try making your own chips!?
