One of the best things about music is that it brings people together and it’s even better when bloggers get on the same wavelength when it comes to songs. I have come across quite a few blogs that feature dope music and I have discovered a few awesome musicians thanks to their willingness to share the goods with us so I’d like to do my part and share their shares. I hope that makes sense. Lol Anyway, without further adieu, here are some of my favorite music-related posts by some of my favorite fellow bloggers:
summer soundtrack: ladies edition | I’ve said this a few times but it’s worth repeating that Kelley at Gray Suede is one of my favorite bloggers. She posts thought-provoking, enriching, engaging posts that’ll have you shouting, “I’m Black and I’m proud!” It also doesn’t hurt that she has awesome taste in music. In fact, we collaborated on a post together when we both realized our deep love of Solange’s latest album, A Seat At The Table. With this post, I thought this would be perfect since the weather is warming up and summer is just around the corner. Plus, it showcases Kelley’s ability to find those hidden gems that are unforgettable. So get into these good vibes by these talented powerhouses: Abra, Laura Mvula, Alex Isley (one of my personal favorite singers), Ngaire, Nao, Irma, and Eryn Allen Kane. | LISTEN & READ HERE
J Cole’s Three Most Politically-Charged Moments | Megan Ambers definitely has her pulse on today’s music. In her self-titled blog, she reflects and analyzes the current trends in pop culture, especially in the world of hip-hop & R&B. Featuring some of the most well-known artists from Kid Cudi to Janet Jackson, she celebrates and critiques the sights and sounds of these artists as well as takes a look at the controversy that surround them in a blunt fashion that only a true New Yorker could display. One of my favorite posts feature an artist that I’ve mentioned a few times – J. Cole and dives into his political actions which are not talked about enough if you ask me. | LISTEN & READ HERE
Music for the Day | To say, Jose knows his jazz is almost an understatement. He lives and breathes this genre of music. His blog, Jazz You Too, features tons of clips of performances from some of the jazz greats and newbies. He shares a great blend of conventional and unconventional – improvised and traditional. In fact, I enlisted his expertise for one of my Music Monday posts. He came up with the cool idea to feature new artists’ renditions of jazz classics. I picked his latest “Music for the Day” because I absolutely love Gretchen Parlato and I love chocolate. Perfect combo! Watch the video and you’ll know what I mean. | LISTEN & READ HERE
An Open Letter To The Cast of Hamilton The Broadway Musical | Robert a.k.a. The Hook is one of the funniest bloggers I follow. His quick wit has made my day plenty of times because the tales of a bellman are timely and hilarious. However, the post I am sharing is different than his norm. In this touching post, he shares an open letter to the cast of Broadway’s hit, Hamilton about the tremendous effect it has had on his daughter. It will surely warm your heart and make you want to see that play with the quickness (if you haven’t already). | READ HERE
5 Ways to Get Music Exposure | Are you an artist trying to get some shine? Then, my girl, Steph Royalty may have a few ideas on how to promote your music to a wider audience. Steph is a blogger that talks about a lot of different topics from relationships to records and interviewed a lot of upcoming artists and creatives too. She is also one of my favorite twitter accounts to boot. Read her tips for musicians and travel to other areas on her page. I promise you won’t be disappointed! | READ HERE
