5 fun things to do when you’re tired of adulting

Have you ever heard your alarm ring on a Monday morning and thought to yourself, “Really? It’s already 7am? Didn’t I just go to sleep? Is today really Sunday and you’re playing a jedi mind trick, Lord? No? *sighs* I’m tired of adulting. Can I just take a break!?” If so, then this post is for you, my friend!

a quick mental check up

I am scared. I am also excited. I guess if you put the two together, it would be translated to anxiety. That makes total sense given my mental disorder. I am starting to wonder if it is a disorder or just a different way of being. I don’t know. Either way, it doesn’t fit the norm so it’s difficult to live with at times. I ruminate on change like an ongoing meditation that hums in my ear whether I want it or not. The chants of change are always nearby and sometimes, I appreciate the choir singing. Sometimes, I don’t.

Finally answering the #1 question I get asked

One of the best things about having a blog is that you don’t have to type anything twice when you can just point them to one place - the blog! The reason I bring this up is that I just realized that I can answer a question that I’ve heard so many times in my life, especially recently. The question goes something like this: “Girl, what you use in your hair?” or “Girl, how did you get your hair like that?” or “Girl, how you make your curls pop?” Well girl, let me tell you!

Yo life is pretty dope right now

As someone who has more issues than tissues, it can be difficult to recognize the dope shit happening in my life so I want to take a moment while I am in this mood of self-reflection to point out a few cool things that are happening in my life right now. So that when I am in the space of doubting myself and feeling anxious, I can come back to this post and say, “Girl, you’re good.”

5 more signs you love food a little too much

Last November, I wrote a list that pretty much explains those of us who have an endless infatuation for food. It's hilarious and relatable, if I do say so myself. What can I say? When you love food, nothing or no one can stop your deep passion for herbs, spices, veggies, carbs, and meats. Whether you are a true carnivore or a careful plant-based eater, everyone who loves food can relate to the pure joy of having good grub in front of them. Since there are so many signs that you love food a little too much, I had to write down 5 more because why not? It's the month of Thanksgiving and this is the best season to show our undying love for food without being silently judged.

That Moment When Archangel Raphael CO-SIGNED ALL OF MY MOTHER'S ADVICE

If you have been following my blog for awhile, then you know that I have had some pretty sweet stories about synchronicity in my life. There was that moment when a Lee Harris video was speaking my life through and through. There was that moment when my sister couldn’t find rosemary right before cooking her big Thanksgiving meal but then God hooked her up in the most unexpected ways. There was also that moment when I prayed for a hug and I got one from my grandfather who surprised me in my dreams. And now, there is that moment when Archangel Raphael came through for a sista during an extremely rough time in her life by basically co-signing all of my mother’s advice. Lol Let me tell you the story!

Confession: I'M a scaredy cat & I’m okay with that.

I’ve accepted that. I am a scary cat and perfectly okay with it. I don’t do scary movies. I don’t do haunting houses. I barely do Halloween parties and if I do, it has to be someone who is not into Halloween too much because then, I know that their place won’t turn into a haunting house.

Has anyone else noticed how Pentatonix has BEEN SLAYING the MUSIC game on the low?

Ever since they hit the stage on the show, The Sing Off, Pentatonix has struck a chord with me. From their beautiful harmonies and intricate arrangements, this acapella group has been slaying the music world on the low. They have so much incredible talent and it really shows collectively and individually. Recently, Avi Kaplan, the super bass, left the group for his own well being but he will forever be in the hearts of Pentatonic fans. With over 13 million subscribers and over 2 billion views on YouTube, this group has proven that acapella music can reach far and wide. We haven't seen this type of popularity since the golden days of R&B group, Take 6. Thus, I would like to show you how they are slaying the game with their individual projects as well as their collective ones.

Ladies…and men... Do you remember the first time you looked at your body with the side-eye? You know that moment when you go to put on your favorite jeans and they feel a little tighter than you remembered? You’re thinking to yourself - "What the hell happened? Just yesterday, my butt was smoother than a cup of pudding and now it has the nerve to look more like a pot of grits!?”

Yesterday, I cried.

I wish I could logically explain anxiety and depression in words for everyone to understand. I can’t. At least, not right now. I am in the middle of one of those days...one of those super quiet days when raw emotions speak loudest. It’s rough but I can handle it. I’ve been here before plenty of times and have pulled through.

I will pull through.

And you will too.
