Ever since they hit the stage on the show, The Sing Off, Pentatonix has struck a chord with me. From their beautiful harmonies and intricate arrangements, this acapella group has been slaying the music world on the low. They have so much incredible talent and it really shows collectively and individually. Recently, Avi Kaplan, the super bass, left the group for his own well-being but he will forever be in the hearts of Pentatonix fans. With over 13 million subscribers and over 2 billion views on YouTube, this group has proven that acapella music can reach far and wide. We haven't seen this type of popularity since the golden days of R&B group, Take 6. Thus, I would like to show you how they are slaying the game with their individual projects as well as their collective ones.
Let's start with the group as a whole. In 2013, they released a dope ass visual for their song, Daft Punk, that featured a mashup of Daft Punk's greatest hits. That video alone has over 200 million views. I think you'll see why after you watch below:
Next, let's go into their recent solo work starting with Avi. He said goodbye to the fast pace lifestyle as a Pentatonix member and said hello to the slower pace vibes of his own group, Avriel & The Sequoias. Check out how they put a bluegrass twist to a popular Outkast song!
Let's follow up with the lady of Pentatonix, Kirstin Maldonado! 😉 With her gorgeous vocals, she brings a refreshing pop sound all by herself. Watch her video for the emotional and very relatable pop hit, Break A Little below!
Kirstie is not the only Pentatonix member dappling her toe into the pop world, Superfruit has been killing the game with their first pop/r&b EP, Future Friends. Their infectious tunes, smooth moves and dope threads has made this two-man group (Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying) into an overnight sensation! Get into my favorite video by them, Imaginary Parties!
Last but definitely not least is the incredible beatboxing force behind Pentatonix, Kevin Olusola. I am not sure if this guy is from this planet honestly. He plays the cello effortlessly, sings pitch perfectly, plays keys flawlessly and loops his sounds as if it's easy as hell. Who knows what else this crazily talented brotha can do! Maybe fly? Anyway, watch him show off his amazing skills in his latest single, Down - a rendition of Marian Hill's hit.
So can you see why I think this group is slaying for the gawds on the low!? They are just fuckin' awesome to put it bluntly.
Now, it's your turn to fangirl with me. Have you been digging the vibes of Pentatonix? What are your favorite songs? Which solo project are you enjoying? Let me know below!
